Drama & Thriller
1982
Directed By: Oualid Mouaness
During the 1982 invasion of Lebanon at a private school on the outskirts of Beirut, 11-year-old Wissam tries to tell a classmate about his crush on her, while his teachers — on different sides of the political divide — try to mask their fears, in this poignant debut feature from Oualid Mouaness.
Soapbox Films was thrilled to work with Oualid on such a stunning and personal story. 1982 won the NETPAC Award at the 2019 Toronto International Film Festival, the FIPRESCI at Elgouna, the Youth Audience Award at Festival CINEMED, and was Lebanon’s submission for the 92nd Academy Awards’ International Feature Film category. Most recently it won the 2021 Grand Prix Cannes Écrans Juniors in France.

Wildcat
Status: The film sold to Saban Films and was released theatrically through Paramount Pictures.
Directed By: Jonathan Stokes
A claustrophobic thriller about a young CIA agent that is captured by a terrorist cell and must use her wits to stay alive long enough to somehow escape. Starring BAFTA award winner Georgina Campbell and Luke Benward. The story is inspired by real-life heroines like Amanda Lindhout and Lynsey Addario and informed by Man’s Search For Meaning by Victor Frankel. Wildcat was shot entirely on the premises of Soapbox Films where we built standing sets. The freedom of working on our own property allowed us to shoot the film chronologically from beginning to end. This is almost unheard of in the film industry and it gave the actors the opportunity to really dig deep and evolve their characters in an organic and naturalistic way.
